Should I use the Affero license

On 19 Nov 2007, FSF released version 3 of the Affero General Public License. This could be exactly what I was waiting for as a license for parts of the new site I am planning. I am considering to open source at least the "query/search" side of the site to allow collaboration and reuse of the code on that side. In parallel, I may consider the "dual license" approach that has worked fairly well for companies like MySQL AB and Trolltech AB.

Open standards and open source in Portugal

Last week, I attended the 2nd Free Sofware in the Public Administration Meeting (ESLAP 2007) in Lisbon (Portugal). The first day and the morning of the second day where an "open" meeting, where I presented the Belgian ODF story, using the excellent presentation created for Berlin by my director, Peter Strickx. A Portugese journalist picked up the story [English translation below].

Papierberg

Hello World on facebook

Triggered by the article in Linux Journal of December 2007, I wrote my first "Hello World" application for facebook. Actually not that difficult, using the Rfacebook plug-in for Ruby on Rails. Installed the Rfacebook plug-in in a Ruby on Rails set-up hosted at home, used dyndns to link back home, pierced a little (?) hole in my firewall and set-up the facebook application to "call home" and use my home server as sort of web service to execute the requests to the application.

jiibe.com - employment culture measured by a social network

Jiibe.com Beta launched mid October 2007.

After asking me true-untrue on these questions about myself and my current employer ...

1) My manager often tells people to stop talking to each other and to get back to working on their own.
2) My manager tries to keep things fresh by making sure I'm not always doing the same thing everyday.
3) I can access training programs to expand my skills and knowledge.
4) I handle each daily challenge in a different way, rather than by following a set process.
5) Managers always talk about keeping customers happy.

Disambiguation of "Peter Vandenabeele"

After resolving too many times the name "Peter Vandenabeele" to persons outside our group of identically named persons, I decided to set-up a disambiguation page about our name on wikipedia. The case that made me do this is where I was asked to review a paper on archeology, I first sent it to the Professor sharing my name at University of Ghent in the Cell biology department, and he then had to forward it to his colleague in Archeology ...

LeuvenValley.be - netwerk van professionals in Leuven
